The forum for knowledge exchange and international cooperation regarding the European truffle will develop activities in Vic-Catalonia, Occitania (France), Soria, Teruel and New York (USA) in 2022

Since its creation by the partners of the European Mycological Institute ( EMI ) in 2017, TRUFFORUM has established itself as the main international cooperation forum for the exchange of scientific knowledge, a sector meeting and the promotion of the responsible use of the truffle. After several face-to-face editions in which more than 25,000 people participated in Zaragoza (2017) and Vic-Barcelona (2019 and 2020), the event adapted itself to the circumstances of 2021 with a joint online edition organized between Occitania (France), Vic-Catalonia, Teruel, and Soria-Burgos-Valladolid-Castilla y León that received more than 93,000 visits from 72 countries.

In 2022, TRUFFORUM will return to the face-to-face format with scientific seminars, educational fresh truffle markets with quality controls, exhibitions, workshops, gastronomic demonstrations, citizen science, etc…, but it will also maintain hybrid events and increase international collaborations, in order to to promote knowledge of the truffle in other countries such as the USA, with a training activity and a European black truffle tasting scheduled for the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park New York with the teaching collaboration of the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM).

The calendar and joint programme of TRUFFORUM 2022 activities in Vic-Catalonia, Occitania (France), Soria, Teruel and New York (USA), will be available at www.trufforum.com in four languages and also include information of interest to the consumers and the promotion of the purchase of local truffles and truffle tourism in the production areas. These activities can be followed through the event’s social media on Twitter and Facebook @Trufforumofic and Instagram @Trufforumoficial and via the social media profiles of the European Mycological Institute @europeanmico and its Youtube channel.

TRUFFORUM 2022 will once again count on the collaboration of the French Federation of Truffle Growers (FFT), the Spanish Federation of Truffle Growers (FETT), the European Truffle and Truffle Growers Group (GETT) and the support of public institutions and truffle growers’ associations from Occitania (France), Vic (Catalonia), Teruel (Spain) and Teruel (Spain), Vic (Catalonia), Teruel and Soria-Burgos-Valladolid-Castilla y León, territories that bring together the main production areas of the European black truffle (Tuber melanosporum) worldwide.

TRUFFORUM 2022 will promote innovation and the exchange of knowledge with the participation of prestigious international scientists, specialised chefs, companies in the sector and interested end users. In this edition, among others, there has been the exceptional collaboration of Jeremiah Tower, one of the most prestigious chefs in the United States, promoter of Californian Cuisine, the first chef from the United States to introduce the black truffle in that country and the protagonist of documentaries and series broadcast on CNN and Netflix.

TRUFFORUM 2022 will help in disseminating:

  • a) The different origins of European truffles.
  • b) The different species of European truffles and how to distinguish them from other less valued truffles.
  • c) The differences between European truffles and imitation added flavorings.
  • d) The importance of quality control to avoid fraud.
  • e) The most appropriate ways to use them in cooking and gastronomy to enjoy and extract their most authentic qualities.
  • f) Mycotourism in European truffle-producing territories: landscapes, truffle growers, fairs, and specialized restaurants.
